WoodcarvingAbstractIn 1816 Christian Fischer, a master wood turner from Brienz, began to carve everyday objects for sale to tourists. This was the beginning of a tradition that is still very much alive today. The Brienz School of Woodcarving is the only institution in Switzerland that teaches this craft and since 2009 the town is home to the Swiss Woodcarving Museum.
