Maggia

As its name suggests, it is one of the villages in the valley where the river Maggia flows. It is actually located in the Bassa Vallemaggia, the widest and lowest part of the valley, 14 km north of Locarno.

In summer, the Maggia River, with its non-calcareous waters, numerous natural caves with crystal clear waters and a few small beaches with very fine sand, is a popular destination for sunbathing and swimming.

The valley also offers many opportunities for hiking in an enchanting environment.

Near the village of Maggia, for example, you can go and admire the impressive waterfall of the Riale del Salto torrent, where the 61 m waterfall breaks into small rainbows.
