Gemmi Pass

The Gemmi Pass, at an altitude of 2270m, is one of the few passes that once provided a link between the Valais and the Bernese Oberland. It has never been passable by car, and its side overlooking Leukerbad was long considered impassable. Nowadays, a cable car climbs it in both summer and winter.

Whether you're looking for great hikes or just to admire the view of several peaks topping out at over 4000m, this is an unforgettable excursion, with an impressive ascent of the vertiginous Gemmi wall.

If you decide to go up on foot, be prepared for a climb of around 900m, on a safe but not very wide path. Those prone to vertigo are advised to abstain!

The cable car is a much less strenuous alternative, and rest assured that once you arrive at the top station, there's no shortage of hiking opportunities!

Descend to the shores of Lake Dauben (Daubensee), on foot or with a small cable car, and you can enjoy superb walks along its banks, in an impressive alpine landscape. Beyond the lake, you can even continue on to Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland!
