St. Gallen, a cultural city of international standing, is very popular with city tourists, and on the shores of Lake Constance (Bodensee) there is a wide choice of outdoor swimming pools, water sports and fascinating museums.
The rural surroundings of St. Gallen are a beautiful hiking and biking area with magnificent lake and mountain views.
The historic quarter of St. Gallen, with its magnificent baroque church and rococo library, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a pleasure to stroll through its many corners and admire its corbelled houses.
The canton offers a wide range of leisure activities: in August, sand becomes a work of art in Rorschach, where 120 tonnes of sand are brought in for a sand sculpture festival in which ten teams of artists from all over the world compete.
At the Aviation Museum in Altenrhein, old planes and engines take the visitor into a fascinating world. In St. Margrethen, a renowned health resort for over 300 years, the hot springs invite you to take a relaxing bath in the open air even in winter.
To the south, Bad Ragaz is a well-known spa town which every three years is transformed into a giant work of art during the Swiss Sculpture Triennial.
